Sustainable Dining
The Office of Sustainability and UMW Dining understand the direct connection between Food and Sustainability – so providing sustainable, healthy opportunities for those who dine on campus is as important as ever!
UMW Sustainability works closely with UMW Dining services to assist in providing a sustainable dining experience all across campus. At the Top of The Cedric Rucker University Center dining hall, UMW Dining commits to providing plant-based options at every meal, minimizing total food waste, providing responsibly-sourced foods and more.
Additional dining sustainability efforts include:
- Committing to UMW’s single-use plastic phase-out program
- Recycling fryer oil in all campus locations
- Utilizing compostable greenware or paper products for take-out orders
- Supporting UMW’s Food Recovery program – a volunteer program preventing food waste by feeding the local community
- Purchasing and maintaining energy efficient and environmentally-friendly kitchen appliances
- Committing to a tray-less dining hall
