Environmental Geology Major
Driven to understand – and protect – the planet we live on? UMW’s bachelor’s program in environmental geology arms you with the knowledge and principles you need to understand Earth’s evolution and processes. Environmental Science – Natural Science Major
UMW’s environmental science — natural science major explores the relationships among biology, chemistry, physics, geology, and Earth science. Our interdisciplinary program encourages undergraduate research and fosters the analytical, critical-thinking, and communications skills you’ll need as a working scientist or graduate scholar.
Environmental Science – Social Science Major
UMW’s environmental science – social science major explores the effects humans have on the natural world, from the nearby Rappahannock River to the planet’s most threatened ecosystems. Our interdisciplinary program encourages undergraduate research and gives you the knowledge and problem-solving skills to make a difference right away as a working scientist.
Environmental Sustainability Minor
With businesses blamed for damaging rain forests and overfishing oceans, sustainability is a hot topic. UMW’s minor program explores environmental sustainability – making responsible decisions to reduce negative impact and ensure support of future human life – through environmental, social, economic, and cultural lenses. Examine society’s relationship with nature. Analyze methods of resolving resource issues. Typically attracting students from the natural and social sciences, philosophy, economics, and business, the environmental sustainability minor is open to all students and adaptable to individual interests and career goals.
