UMW Sustainability & Adopta UMW are hosting the UMW Tree Festival on Oct 3rd, 2019!
The UMW Tree Festival will be on October 3rd from 3-5pm on Ball Circle! As a certified “Tree Campus USA”, UMW is proud and passionate about meeting our goals of having an established, sustained and healthy community forest on campus. So come on out and help us celebrate our amazing trees and all they provide for the world’s ecosystems, vitality and health!
At 4pm, President Paino & the Department of Forestry will be presenting UMW with the Department of Forestry Tree Campus Award.
Keep an eye out during the event for Sammie the Eagle and snap a picture with your favorite tree and mascot!
Who didn’t love climbing trees as a kid? Bartlett Tree Experts are bringing tree climbing to the college level by offering demos where students can learn how and climb trees properly without hurting them. They will be doing this throughout the festival so stop by anytime to try it out.
Ball Circle filled with information & local organizations and UMW groups, their missions, the importance of trees and organization members ready to talk and answer any and all questions. This is a great opportunity to find out whats happening in our community and different ways you may want to get involved!
This post will be updated as more groups join the UMW Tree Festival!
Navigate through the interactive Fredericksburg Campus Tree Map!
This map shows the biodiversity & beauty our Tree Campus holds and the common name & genus species of our trees and where they are located.
A big thank you to the 21 students and Dr. Alan Griffith, UMW Professor of biology, who have worked on gathering the data necessary to create this map since Fall 2015. Another thank you to Zach Zwierko, Computer Science ’19 for the computer coding that made this map possible!
